Nanofiltration (NF) can be used for a wide range of applications in the dairy and plant-based industries, e.g. demineralization of whey, milk, plant-based extract and permeate from UF of milk,  whey or plant-based extract. NF membranes are similar to RO membranes, though with a slightly more open structure, allowing passage of small monovalent ions like Sodium, Potassium and Chloride, while rejecting larger, polyvalent ions, and most organic compounds.
